The garden knows it's autumn but the weather doesn’t!

6/3/2019

At least it’s cool and we have had a few drops of rain. The trees are soooo stressed from lack of water that they are dropping rather than look beautiful for a few weeks in their autumnal finery and at least I won’t have to water any more. Harold likes the cool too - he is quite chipper even, looking for balls????

Rain, hail and thunder

19/8/2018

Wow winter at Downderry - rain hail and thunder! The two dogs were terrified of the thunder, but oh how pretty it is... especially inside in the warm

Spring is on its way

17/8/2018

My ancient Edna Walling crabapple is just starting, now I really know spring is on its way. It was sunny and pleasant today so Harold and I have spent the afternoon in the garden, How splendid! It has gone quite quite mad - the hellebores are amazing and so is everything else but I always get very excited when ancient Edna starts to flower. She is very old and gnarled but so so beautiful 😍

Sooo sorry it’s out of focus - Glens fabulous bird house. I think I will paint it pink like Downderry.

Winter in my Downderry garden

15/7/2018

Leaves have really finished, these cymbidium orchids flower every year for my birthday, a friend gave them to me when I turned 30 and I've have carted them round ever since and divided them on numerous occasions - often with an axe!!!! The garden is heaven at the moment - nothing better than a sunny winters day soaking up the vitamins while waiting for my lamb curry to cook in the slow cooker, My Mouse Lilys look amazing. They stick their little heads up and peer around viewing Downderry ,Harry and me. Somehow I have to get these gorgeous pics all in this epistle

Wonderful surprise...

28/5/2018

Anna and I had our rostered working day out at Yarra Glen Antiques yesterday, frantically busy and great fun, but look what I came home to - the botanical gardens! My wonderful son in law, Glen, and Zac and Tilly, worked all day in my garden cutting back and blowing, It was after dark when we got home so didn’t see what they had done till this morning, It’s just wonderful! How lucky am I? Thankyou so much darlings - it just looks gorgeous ❤️👍😍

My favorite time in Downderry garden and Bickleigh Vale

26/5/2018

It’s nearly the end of autumn, my favourite time in Downderry garden and Bickleighvale, The crunch of leaves bare skeletal trees, soft light sunshine, through the mossy branches, It is just so beautiful.of course we have finally had some really splendid rain, so the poor gasping gardens, can finally breath again, I love also how the old cottages, peep through the bare trees, usually with their gutters full of leaves - best to wait till all the trees have finished though before cleaning them properly, it’s just the best season, but then so is spring I don’t know which is my favourite ❤️🍃🍂🍁🍁🍁🍄

Here is dear old Downderry in all her autumn glory. Nearly all the old trees have finished but the splendid copper beech is just starting. Autumn in Bickleigh Vale is a beautiful treat!
